St Jarlath's PS 7 Aside Football Tournament

16th Apr 2015
St Jarlath\'s PS 7 Aside Football Tournament

On Tuesday the 14th of April, ten schools took part in the annual St Jarlath’s 7s Football Competition. Each school entered a boys and girls team to compete for the sponsored ‘Traynor Motor Store Cup’ and the ‘McMullan and O’Donnell Cup’. A plate competition was also organised for the runners up in the group stages.

Six football pitches were set up to facilitate the two hundred and forty pupils who took part in the blitz. St Jarlath’s PS are very grateful to Grange St Colmcille’s GFC and An Port Mor GAC for providing the goal posts. A special word of thanks must go to Brendan Nugent, Youth Officer of An Port Mor Gac, for helping to manage and referee during the blitz.

Six referees allowed the games to be played at a fast pace and high skill level. Big score lines were notched up in all sections and those watching were very impressed by the teams on the field of play.

The schools were very evenly matched and only the narrowest of margins separated the winners from the rest of the teams. In the end St John’s Moy defeated St John’s Middletown in the girls’ cup final, while St Patrick’s PS Armagh beat St Armagh CBS the boys’ cup final.

In the plate competition St Joseph’s Madden took the silverware in the boys’ section, while Roan Eglish collected the trophy in the girls’ division.

We are very grateful to Hegarty's Shop Blackwatertown for sponsoring refreshments.</ Many thanks to all those who helped make it a successful and enjoyable day. p>
