Autism NI Impact Award

As part of our School Development Plan, we are working towards achieving the Autism NI Impact Award this year. This has involved whole school staff training and making changes to our school environment and classroom routines.

The actions we have been working on are:

  • Whole staff training
  • Appointing Autism Champions -  Mrs Fearon and Miss O'Gorman
  • All classrooms are using consistent visual timetables
  • We have considerably improved our school sensory room so that it is effective for all pupils who need this provision
  • New resources have been purchased for the sensory room, with the involvement of our school's Wellbeing Committee
  • Staff have access to a bank of resources which can help with the provision for pupils with ASD.
  • Each class has a new box of fidget toys/sensory resources for any pupils who may benefit from them
  • New resistance bands for class chairs were purchased for all classrooms, for pupils who may benefit from the movement
  • 'Take a break' system implemented in all classes
  • Neurodiversity Celebration Week was celebrated in school from 16th-20th March
